Years ago, I bought my partner a Zippo to take on the road since we had both always loved the iconic lighters and they’re a life on the road necessity. I took it to my local engraver to see if I could get something rad engraved like a moon or a cactus, and he suggested we print whatever I like on a metal plate and then attach it to the Zippo. So I chose a design to get printed and also got some song lyrics engraved on the back and we loved it so much that I said one day I’m going to create and sell these. Fast forward a few years and lots more graphic design experience, and now here we are, Open Flame Zippos ready for you to enjoy.

The Open Flame Zippos are one part of the overall Open Road Collective. They are not mass produced ~ I keep it local with my legend engraver and just want to make some funky Zippos for funky people to own. The designs are limited edition and only a small amount of these Zippos will ever exist since they are a love project amongst my graphic design. Your purchase supports my small business and also my engraver, we are so grateful.

The designs on the Open Flame lighters are printed onto a thin metal sheet and then hand-shaped and glued to the Zippo. As such, some variations in printing and cutting may occur.
Metal printing is durable, waterproof and scratch-resistant. Of course if something sharp impacts on the ink, it may scratch. Whilst we don’t mind the well-used vintage look, please take care with your lighter.

Due to postage restrictions, our lighters do not include fluid. You can purchase Zippo fluid at any tobacconist. Please see this video for information on Zippo use and refilling

The best thing about Zippos are they are long-lasting. 350 million plastic lighters disposed of every year is unacceptable - having a lighter that you cherish and can keep for years is beautiful for you and the planet. Every part of a Zippo is easily replaceable, so if you pour some love into it over the years, you’ll keep the Zippo fire burnin’.

With regular use, you will need to fill up your lighter with fluid every few weeks. This is a very quick and easy process. And then occasionally, you will have to do a bit of a Zippo service where you trim the wick and replace the flint which wears down with use. Replacements flints are cheap and sold in packs. Make a ritual of loving on your Zippo, and it will love you back.

Zippos are iconic metal lighters that have been around since the 1930s. They are known for their reliability, wind-proof design and their place in history. They appear in many movies and songs and celebrities have been known to be buried with their trusty Zippos. ORC is simply placing art on top of the Zippos and reselling, we do not claim any ownership of the Zippo itself. Just spreading and expanding the Zippo love in the Australian market which has limited customisation possibilities.
